SOME QUESTIONS ANSWERED
WHAT IS THE BLA? The
‘BLA’ is a parental body. Whilst
many schools have PTA’s (Parent Teacher Associations), Bishop Lovett
has chosen to have the ‘BLA’. The ‘BLA or Bishop Lovett Association’ extends beyond
just parents and teachers and includes past
pupils and their parents,
and other members of our parish.
HOW DO YOU JOIN THE BLA? By
the virtue of having a child attending the school, you are automatically
a member.
WHAT DOES THE BLA DO? The
main aim of the BLA is to support and promote the ethos of our school,
as well as, support the Head Teacher and Staff by raising funds to
improve resources and the school environment.
Annually we have a Summer and Christmas Fayre.
These events are our main fund raisers of the Year and in the
April of 2004 we raised sufficient funds for a new school minibus (Click
HERE fro more information.)
Throughout the year with sufficient parental assistance we would
also like to arrange Car Boot Sales, Quiz Nights, Race Nights, Family
Discos, Fashion Shows and
possibly other social events such as
family Summer Parties / Barbeques or
possibly a Fireworks display.
BLA MEETINGS - WHO CAN ATTEND? Any
parents can attend the meetings! You will receive notification of BLA
meetings in advance via the Mitre. They are usually held at least once a
term and often on a Tuesday evening at around 7.00pm in the school. It
is a popular misconception that only the elected committee members may
attend, this is not the case. Please feel free to come along otherwise
you’ll never know what you’re missing.
The meetings give everyone an opportunity to air their views and
offer suggestions. Our meetings are informal, the atmosphere is light
hearted with an emphasis on making the school an even better place for
our children.
